Raul
OUR GOODMAN FAMILY
Meet Raul, one of our Bartenders
at Goodman City.
Bartender Raul has been with the company for five years. Well, nearly – “really, really close to five years,” he explains. He’ll have a pint of Guinness and a whisky, if you’re buying, really rates a British Porterhouse (and thinks the roasted onions are dreadfully underrated) claims Radiohead’s Amnesia as the first proper record he bought and, if you’re his friend, will happily cook you his celebrated paella…
“My hometown dish,” explains Rual, when asked the best thing he cooks. “My local dish, my paella. I love it. It’s my favourite thing to cook, and taste. I make it for my friends, and make it properly, it’s a ritual.”
Raul has been with Goodman for 5 years, starting as a runner, bar back and then bartender. “I like it here, yeah,” he says, grinning.
“It’s work but...” Raul smiles. “There are such good vibes around the bar, the regulars, they come in sometimes just to see how we’re doing. Some people go to work and are… unhappy. “I never feel like that, I’m happy to come. It’s like home here sometimes.”
When not at Goodman, Raul likes to stay active. “I go to the gym, sometimes I play golf – not well, but I try and the views are nice! – and I follow UFC, and I practice Mixed Martial Arts.” And he skateboards. “I bought my first skateboard when I was, nine or ten. I do it less now but it’s been a good 17 years. Unless they cut my leg off, I’m going to keep skating.”
