Pawel
OUR GOODMAN FAMILY
Meet Pawel, one of our Managers and
a long-standing part of Goodman City.
Getting Pawel to answer questions, let alone pose for photos, was something of a challenge. “I prefer to stay in the shadows,” he says, with a grin. A long-standing part of the Goodman family, Pawel is a big fan of a Belted Galloway Porterhouse and the Stilton sauce – but a bigger fan of Real Madrid.
“I was promoted from bartender to manager,” says Pawel, when asked his role with Goodman. “I’m working as a manager, helping to run the restaurant, learning – still learning! always learning!
Pawel has been with Goodman for 10 years now, starting as a runner, bar back, bartender, key-holder, manager.” He grins. “I’m climbing the ladder…
Appropriately enough for someone who talks about ladder-climbing and being a runner, Pawel likes to exercise. “Cycling is my thing. During the lockdown, I was picking places in London on Google, and cycling there. I think I’ve probably been to most places in London now! I swim as well, and I play football. We used to play five-a-side every Monday, as Goodman Team, we even won the league, but we’ve taken a break at the moment.”
Pawel is clearly glad he joined Goodman. “It’s a very nice place to work. When I came over, from Poland, I was a night porter at the Holiday Inn for six months. I really didn’t like it, I didn’t like the night shifts, they destroy the body. Goodman City though? Monday to Friday. Weekends off. Even as a bartender, on a busy night, you finish at a sensible time. It’s a very nice place to work.” Pawel smiles. “And the food is much better…”
