Nuno
OUR GOODMAN FAMILY
Meet Nuno, our manager in Mayfair who has been part of the Goodman Family for some time now.
Goodman Maddox manager Nuno comes to us from Portugal via Canada. He’ll have a beer if you’re offering, follows American sports, supports FC Porto, would be grateful if someone could explain the rules of cricket sometime, and would like to see the return of the blue cheese mash…
Catching up with Nuno in June might not have been our greatest idea ever. With the World Cup on, he’s in his element – although is perhaps more used to watching another type of football. “I’m from Portugal, but grew up in Canada, and while I like to watch all kinds of sports, it’s American sports like baseball and basketball mostly because they’re what I grew up watching in Canada.”
After returning to his home country to do his military service, Nuno left the army and moved to London. “My English was good, of course – but I wasn’t a good student,” he admits. Having done some bar and wedding work in his youth, he was drawn to hospitality… and it’s what he’s done since. “It’s something I really like,” he explains, “You can find out what people enjoy and make them happy. You bond with them. It’s like family. And when they come back, and bring other people, their own family… “ Nuno smiles. “It’s the best.”
Nuno started off as a server at Mayfair and slowly worked his way up to management.
As for eating at Goodman himself, Nuno leans to the classics. “I’ll have a beer. Prawn Tempura. USDA steak - I like that creamy, buttery sweetness – and a ribeye. I call ribeye the King the sirloin the Queen, and fillet is the son, the prince. Mac and cheese, truffle chips, then a crème brulee. If I ate all of that, I’d need a nap but then I walk home to South London every day, I can take it.”
