New Goodman Website

A foreword by our dear friend Neil Davey, a knifeholder, whose words you are reading throughout this website.

If you know anything about Goodman, you’ll know one thing: they do things their way.

And, as you’re reading this because you’ve signed up for the newsletter, you’re one of the many who not only know that, but thoroughly appreciate it. As we said in the tenth anniversary book, A Day In The Life, Goodman is “not just a success... with remarkable staff longevity and… dedicated guests”, it’s a restaurant that’s touched and inspired thousands of people, a restaurant that made that particular landmark (and continues to survive through incredibly challenging times) due to enthusiasm, care and incredible attention to detail. At the heart of that is the Goodman philosophy of great steak, great wine and great people.

And it’s that philosophy we decided to celebrate when it came to the new Goodman website, which has launched last week.

We could have gone for something basic, of course, a just-the-facts website like so many other businesses. That’s perfectly acceptable but then, you know, it also wouldn’t be Goodman, would it?! That’s why the new look Goodman website is a little more… involved.

The core information is still there (and, we hope, concise and easy to find). But, like the book, we also wanted to celebrate our people, our suppliers – what we call “The Goodman Family” – and the memories and stories in greater depth because those are things
that: a) are worth celebrating; and b) make Goodman what it is. It’s all beautifully illustrated by Tom Bowles’ extraordinary photography.

There is – we hope – more to come. There will always be new members of the Goodman family, new wines, and other new things to tell you about. But, for now, it’s a chance to take stock, to appreciate where we are, how we came to be here and, particularly, the people who got us here. We hope you like it.
